Considering High School Students’ Experience in Asynchronous and Synchronous Distance Learning Environments: QoE Prediction Model

چکیده
Early identification of relevant factors that influence students' experiences is vitally important to the educational process since they play an important role in learning outcomes. The purpose of this study is to determine underlying constructs that predict high school students’ subjective experience and quality expectations during asynchronous and synchronous distance education activities, in a form of quality of experience (QoE). One hundred and fifty-eight students from different high schools participated in several asynchronous and synchronous learning sessions and provided relevant feedback with comparable opinions regarding different conditions. Structural equation modeling was used as an analytical procedure during data analysis which led to a QoE prediction model that identified relevant factors influencing students’ subjective QoE. The results demonstrated no significant difference related to students’ behavior and expectations during both distance education methods. Additionally, this study revealed that students’ QoE in any situation was mainly determined by motivational factors (intrinsic and extrinsic) and moderately influenced by ease of use during synchronous or quality of content during asynchronous activities. We also found moderate support between technical performance and students’ QoE in both learning environments. However, opposed to existing technology acceptance models that stress the importance of attitude towards use, high school students’ attitude failed to predict

A Comparative Content Analysis of Student Interaction in Synchronous and Asynchronous Learning Networks
Interaction plays an important role to the success of distance learning. As most distance learning environments utilize mainly asynchronous ComputerMediated Communication (CMC) systems, interaction research that focuses on synchronous CMC is largely ignored. This study scrutinize the patterns of learnerlearner interaction in a distance-learning environment. Student interactions in synchronous a...
متن کاملSurface and deep learning processes in distance education: Synchronous versus asynchronous systems
Distance learning is different from regular learning in the classroom. One of the main factors which influence the effectiveness of the learning process is the interaction that exists between the teacher and the student. Our research indicates that different interactions have different effects. There are two methods used for implementing distance learning systems, i.e. synchronous and asynchron...

Mathematics education in the future faces enormous opportunities from the availability of ubiquitous digital networks, from innovative educational approaches based on theories of collaborative learning and from rich resources for interactive, online, dynamic math exploration. The fact that more and more teachers and students are learning online—with distance education, online masters programs, ...
متن کاملPedagogical Principles of the Theories of Interaction in Distance Learning: The Study of Interaction Anderson Model in Web-based Environments
Background: Interaction is considered a necessary, and integral part in all forms of distance learning and web -based learning environments. That how much technologies can support and help interactions is one of the most important issues that should be considered in the web-based environment. These interactions seek to engage students with other students, teachers and also non-human contex...
متن کاملThe experience of final year medical students undertaking a general practice run with a distance education component.
In recognition of the difficulties posed for New Zealand medical students by travel during rural general practice attachments, a system of distance teaching was devised for final year medical students at the Waikato Clinical School. In place of weekly small group teaching using reflection on practice at the central campus led by a tutor, students participated in reflective learning via an elect...
